Green and Eco Friendly School Fundraising – A better way to raise funds and awareness

School fundraising has become more important in recent years as a federal state and district funding of basic education and school activities has decreased. As a result, more schools and groups are holding several fundraising events and in some cases compete for dollars.

As a parent and former educator I am concerned about the impact of increased pressure to raise funds in the culture and atmosphere of the school. Fundraising is an industry of billions of dollars that have little attention to student health, family or community. We must ask the question, what are we teaching our children and families through our collection practices Current funding? Today, my neighborhood school is to raise funds by selling cookie dough and the promotion of McDonald's coupons. Not that I like cookie dough or the occasional Big Mac, but at one point makes the overall health of the student are higher funding requirements.

A growth trends in recent years has been green or care environment Fundraising solutions. These programs sell organic products, such as reusable water bottles, reusable bags and fair trade products. This is a step in the right direction and that the goods send an educational message home and promote positive actions such as recycling, waste reduction and use of reusable products. In some cases, these fundraisers green or eco-friendly are connected with the school curriculum.

Another type of fundraiser green that has become popular again is the walk-a-thon, or a variation of funds dance-a-thon. These are great activities that promote personal health and awareness to the body needs for exercise. Communities often, as this type fundraising, and most people really do not want a tub of cookie dough or wrapping paper expensive.

It will take time to change the culture of fundraising school, but change is happening across the country. The next time you are able to influence how a group raises money, consider the real impact of raising funds throughout the community and consider a fundraiser green or eco friendly for your group.
