In 2005, the United States produced approximately 9,000,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 13.21 million barrels imported each day from other nations. This oil is refined into gas, kerosene, heating oil and other products. To keep up with our consumption, oil companies must constantly seek new sources of oil, as well as improving production from existing wells.
An oil well is a general term for any bored through the surface of the Earth built to find and produce oil petroleum hydrocarbons. Sometimes a bit of natural gas occurs with oil, and a well built primarily to produce or gas might be called a gas well.
