History Alternative Fuel – The truth of how people started using alternative fuels
Alternative fuels, or at least the concept of them have been around since the early days of the automobile. The gasoline internal combustion changed the face of the planet, but from day one people have Search other fuels for this engine with power.
It was not until the gas shortage of 1970 that American research on alternative fuels began really seriously. Facing a shortage of gasoline, had no choice but to develop some alternatives to standard gasoline engine. What they discovered was ethanol.
Ethanol
The alcohol made from corn, has been around since man learned to cultivate, but it was not until the decade of the 70 scientists realized that could be used in vehicles with gasoline engine. Ethanol (denatured with methanol enough that people could not drink) could power a motor internal combustion as effectively as the petrochemical industry, but without many of the harmful combustion byproducts petrochemicals. It was cheaper to make than gasoline, requiring large quantities of maize, which was good for farmers at the time.
There were other fuels that are found to work as well, with engine modifications to accommodate new fuels. Natural gas, propane, and hydrogen all the power of an internal combustion engine as well as gasoline or ethanol. But there was (and still are) problems with fuel storage and delivery, and the engine must be modified to use these fuels – will not work on a design standard gasoline engine.
Why we are not using alternative fuels then?
Probably no one answer simple reason that you are not using these alternative fuels now – after 30 years research first. Some cite the political power of the big oil companies, others cite the expense of infrastructure development to a new fuel type (which is all the more difficult by the millions gasoline and vehicles on the roads), others say that technologies are simply not ready yet. The real answer probably lies with a mixture all these reasons and many more – the inertia of society comes to mind. People are simply not comfortable with greedy, and even much of the population wants this Instead, it will not happen. But fortunately, this is happening today. With gas prices spiraling out of control up at the pump, more and more cities involved in a thickening layer of pollution and global awareness envornmental hit its peak, the popular demand for cheaper alternative fuels and more environmentally friendly is at a record high.
